Earth Hour: WWF’s annual lights-out event

First held in Sydney, Australia in 2007, Earth Hour takes place every year at 8:30pm on the last Saturday in March. The event encourages everyone to take action for the environment. In 2021, Earth Hour united people from a record-breaking 192 countries and territories around the world.

Earth Hour means much more than just “turning off the lights for an hour”. The event is an annual, visual reminder that we can all make small changes to help protect nature for the future.

This year’s theme in Hong Kong, “Habits Protect Habitats”, reminds us that our habits have a direct impact on the habitats that surround us – our actions shape the future of critically important places and therefore shape our own future.
